ShiftIt is a free application for OSX, which enables you to rapidly manipulate window size and position with simple keyboard shortcuts. It aims to be a complete virtual window manager for OSX.
There are other similar but free applications such as FruityLoops, CropList and Smartctic. However, ShiftIt is still in its early stages of development and currently doesn't have all the features available in these programs. For example, if you have lots of open windows, then using the built in "Maximise" button would only maximise the number of active windows. This feature is still incomplete in ShiftIt and it would be nice to have a button which allows you to switch between active windows to a different tab.
Another nice feature so far is the keyboard shortcut menu. You can easily click on the button "Return/Tab" to go to the previous window or tab. The application is easy to use for a beginner. However, for those who are comfortable with more complex window management software, and especially those who are using OSX for serious graphic design work, I believe that ShiftIt is too simple and lacks a few features that catered to more complex users and professionals. If you're looking for a simple and efficient way to manage your windows and allow yourself more time to do productive work, then don't hesitate to download the free version of ShiftIt.
